چکیده

The transition along the strike of Sunda subduction zone, from oceanic in west to continental Australian lithosphere east is envisioned as one canonical examples structural changes that take place within an overriding plate when a wedge enters zone. Yet, along-strike offset trench toward margin represents response opposite predictions numerical models. To understand this paradox, we analyse morphotectonic evolution Sumba island located at Indo-Australian subduction. Drainage allows us constrain topographic since Pliocene. Flights uplifted coral reef terraces document Quaternary deformation. Focal mechanisms shallow crustal earthquakes current stress field. Together, these data reveal affected by dextral en-échelon folding. Offshore, island, reverse and strike-slip focal evidence active transpressional emergence shearing accretionary prism were triggered western lateral boundary margin. We contend Plio-Quaternary tectonic region, with transpression migration primarily dictated shear transfer lower plate, favored strong interplate coupling, southwestward escape Savu-Sumba block following impingement against Timor island.

Survey of Anopheles Mosquitoes in Sumba Island, Indonesia

In August 2007, mosquitoes were collected using four different collection methods at 2 upland interior and 2 coastal villages in West Sumba District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Methods included human-baited and unbaited tent and malaise traps, human-landing collections (HLC), and unbaited CDC light traps. Mosquitoes were identified to species by morphological characters and all ano...

Coevolution of languages and genes on the island of Sumba, eastern Indonesia.

Numerous studies indicate strong associations between languages and genes among human populations at the global scale, but all broader scale genetic and linguistic patterns must arise from processes originating at the community level. We examine linguistic and genetic variation in a contact zone on the eastern Indonesian island of Sumba, where Neolithic Austronesian farming communities settled ...

The Pacific lineage (2E) of JC polyomavirus is prevalent in Sumba Island, Eastern Indonesia

Recent studies have identified a Pacific lineage (2E) of JC polyomavirus (also designated as JC virus or JCV) that occurs in both Island Southeast Asia and Oceania, but not in mainland Asia. It has been postulated that this lineage traveled with Austronesian-speaking people who are now spread throughout Island Southeast Asia and Oceania (excluding Australia and inland and southern New Guinea). ...

High-temperature deformation during continental-margin subduction & exhumation: The ultrahigh-pressure Western Gneiss Region of Norway

A new dataset for the high-pressure to ultrahigh-pressure Western Gneiss Region allows the definition of distinct structural and petrological domains.Much of the study area is an E-dippinghomoclinewith E-plunging lineations that exposes progressively deeper, more strongly deformed, more eclogite-rich structural levels westward. Although eclogites crop out across the WGR, Scandian deformation is...
